Imaging and Focusing of an Atomic Beam with a Large Period Standing Light Wave
نویسندگان
چکیده
A novel atomic lens scheme is reported. A cylindrical lens potential was created by a large period (_~ 45 gm) standing light wave perpendicular to a beam of metastable He atoms. The lens aperture (25 gm) was centered in one antinode of the standing wave; the laser frequency was nearly resonant with the atomic transition 2381 23P2 ()~ = 1.083 gm) and the interaction time was significantly shorter than the spontaneous lifetime (100 ns) of the excited state. The thickness of the lens was given by the laser beam waist (40 btm) in the direction of the atomic beam. Preliminary results are presented, where an atomic beam is focused down to a spot size of 4 gm. Also, a microfabricated grating with a period of 8 btm was imaged. We discuss the principle limitations of the spatial resolution of the lens given by spherical and chromatic aberrations as well as by diffraction. The fact that this lens is very thin offers new perspectives for deep focusing into the nm range. PACS: 32.80.-t, 42.50.Vk, 07.77.+P

Investigation and Comparison of Light Propagation in Two Graded Photonic Crystal Structures
In this paper, we study two different Graded Index (GRIN) photonic crystal (PC) structures which are named as structure type I and type II. The PC structures are made of the square rod in an air background. To design a GRIN PC structure the lattice constant has been altered in the direction transverse to propagation. We investigated focusing effect and waveguiding behavior of electr...
متن کاملAtom focusing by far-detuned and resonant standing wave fields: Thin lens regime
Evolving from the initial experiments [1,2], the study of atom focusing using standing wave (SW) light fields has developed into a broad area of research in atom optics. A standing wave field acts as a lens as a result of a spatially-dependent light shift, focusing atoms into a periodic set of lines or dots having widths of the order of tens of nanometers and distanced from one another by λ/2, ...
متن کاملShort-Distance Atomic Beam Deceleration with a Stimulated Light Force
We have decelerated a cesium atomic beam from thermal velocities down to several tens of mys within only a 10 cm slowing distance. A bichromatic standing light wave was used to generate a stimulated force exceeding the spontaneous force limit by a factor of ,10 and extending over a large, saturation-broadened velocity range. Because of the short slowing distance this method allows production of...
متن کاملCoherent beam splitter for atoms based on a bichromatic standing light wave.
We propose a new coherent atomic beam splitter that is based on the induced redistribution of photons in the intense field of two collinear standing waves with different frequencies. In the dressed-atom approach, we show that this scheme can provide a clear large-angle splitting into two components without being restricted to the Raman-Nath regime.

A low-cost and portable vector network analyzer (VNA) which covered operating frequency between 1MHz to 3GHz is used for vector reflection coefficient and standing wave ratio (swr) of the various microstrip antennas. This paper presents measurements of various ultra wideband (uwb) microstrip antennas for applications in biomedical field. Selection of antenna is an important key for detection of...
